La Taverna has always been a popular venue for dinner before or after a visit to Windsor’s Theatre Royal.

Towards the end of 1969, when Peppino was about the open his second restaurant, John Counsell, the Managing Director of the Theatre wrote the following article in the theatre programme about the need for a proper restaurant, close to the theatre:-

“ Seven years ago, Peppino Battocchi first provided that need when he opened La Taverna in the newly built Providence House adjoining our stage door. It was small, but the excellence of its food and service, its convenient location and above all the fact that it remained open until midnight quickly made it popular among theatre-goers.

Three years ago, Peppino doubled its size by taking the shop next door, and when the premises next to the theatre became vacant last year took the bold step of acquiring them and converting them into the beautifully appointed restaurant, bar and discoteque which opened a week or two ago under his own name of Don Peppino. In doing so, he has not only fulfilled his own ambition but has provided us, vicariously, with what we have always desired – a restaurant which is as near as dammit part of the theatre.”

We continue to welcome theatregoers and cast members to our restaurant and remain as proud as ever of this longstanding relationship with the theatre.
